The minimum entry criteria for the sixth form are:

• a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including Maths and English for all courses.

• a GCSE grade 5 or better in the courses opted for (5-5 in Combined Sciences GCSE if one or more of the ALevel options are Sciences).

Any applicant will also need to meet the requirements for the specific subjects/courses they wish to study.

Yes. In consultation with students, we have made the decision that PA High Sixth Form dress code will be that all students wear smart black attire. This can include a jacket but that is optional, and students may prefer to wear a jumper or smart cardigan instead and a black shirt. Mobile phones must be turned off and out of sight during lessons unless permitted by a teacher for educational purposes. They are allowed in designated Sixth Form study and social areas for study or revision purposes but should not be used while moving around the school premises.

Yes. Students are permitted to use their own devices in Sixth Form study areas, provided they are used responsibly and in line with the school's acceptable use policy.

Students may leave the school premises during lunch breaks, subject to their timetable and the structure of the school day. This privilege is contingent on maintaining good behaviour/attendance and keeping up to date with their studies.

The Sixth Form offers various enrichment activities, including volunteering, leadership roles, and clubs, to enhance personal development and strengthen university applications.​

Behaviour is monitored through the school's behaviour management system. Issues are addressed through restorative conversations, meetings with staff, and, if necessary, formal disciplinary actions.

Dedicated staff provide guidance on UCAS applications, personal statements, and interview preparation to support students in their university aspirations.

Students aged 16–18 may be eligible for bursaries or free travel passes, depending on their circumstances. It's advisable to check with the school for specific details.​

The school maintains regular communication with parents through meetings, reports, and updates.

Most students start with 3 subjects in Year 12 and continue with 3 into Year 13. This is the standard route for university and apprenticeships.

They go deeper into the subject, require more independent study, and have fewer but longer lessons. Students are expected to manage their own learning outside the classroom.

It’s a big step up — about 4–5 hours of independent study per subject per week, on top of lessons. Good time management is key.

Students should pick subjects they enjoy and are good at, and check if certain careers or university courses require specific A-levels. We will offer guidance during Year 11.

Subject teachers offer extra help; there’s academic mentoring, study skills support, and pastoral care. We encourage students to ask for help early. 

Yes, we provide UCAS application support, personal statement guidance, and careers advice. We also help with apprenticeship applications.

Absolutely. Students can take part in volunteering, mentoring, clubs, and leadership roles that strengthen their CVs and university applications.

Excellent attendance is critical. Sixth formers have more freedom but are expected to treat their learning like a job — reliable and committed.

Devices can be used in sixth form study and social areas for learning, but not in lower school spaces or lessons unless directed by the teacher, provided they are used responsibly and in line with the school's acceptable use policy.

Sixth formers are role models. We monitor behaviour through our usual systems, focusing on mutual respect, maturity, and responsibility. Parents are contacted if concerns arise.
